The hood of the 79 SRX I just bought is in pretty good shape as far as nicks and dings but has a bunch of stress cracks in the finish. I am not sure if the stock finish is gell coat or paint. What is the best way to take care of this, anyone know?
Bondo and Paint?
Gell coat repair of some kind?

STRIP AND REPAINT IS ONLY ANSWER, THOSE HOODS ALL DID THIS !! KEEP THIS IN MIND THOUGH, THOSE DECALS ARE LONG OBSLETE FROM YAMAHA, SOME ARE REPRODUCEING BUT THERE ARE NOT THE SAME !! 3:16 (tony)

316 is right. you need to completly strip the hood down to the material the hood is made of and start fresh. if you dont at some point those spider cracks will swell and come right back through. remember to get a good top coat you have to have a good substrate. this from 20 years in the collision repair industry. ski

Stripping
Great, thanks for the info. What do you consider a good finish? Acrylic Enamel? Or something better???
