can you paint the slide rails? what kind of prep. work is needed?

no, i don't think you want to do that. if you want some bling or color, either powdercoat or you can anodize the rails, but i wouldn't paint them.

Dude last year i had the most orange you ever imagine you can do any shafts in the back prime paint,powder coat is a good thing.I had blue rails orange springs wheels and alot of others.

My experience with paint is when the ice sticks to it, the ice falls off taking the paint with it.

yea paint blows on suspension pieces, it simply doesn't last

polish the rails, light scuff with scotch brite pad, and mothers wheel polish will amaze you. ski

Man, apparently you guys have never used a good self etching primer. The acid in the self etching primers will accually bite into the substrate, and NEVER come off. They paint airplanes and the paint doesn't come off when they hit birds at 400 MPH. Even with the extreme temp. changes from the ground to cruising altitude. I wouldn't hesitate to paint my rails. Just use the good prep work, and proper products, and you won't have any problems. There are lots of alluminum hoods out there on cars and trucks(Ford F-150 for example) and the paint stays on them. But I could see it flying off if you used a spray bomb of lacquer or something like that. Like I said, just get the right products for the job.

That Be a Sweet idea man!! I'd Paint mine Blue Or white.. it look really cool!! where would could we get a hold of the Self Etching Primmer??

just get it all powdercoated. i got 2 complete skids done (including all prep) for $160! the rails were done in a chrome powder and everything else in gloss black.
