is it ok to remove the spacers behind the gears when installing aftermarket gears with that spacer built right into an after market gear?

The best thing to with gears with spacers made on is get them machined off, that way you can use the stock spacers, keeps things simple. I actually used a stationary belt sander to remove the spacers from my Polaris gears, didn't take very long at all!

it was a bottom gear that had a built in spacer on it. i removed the bottom shft spacer. even bottom stock gears have a slight spacer on them the top and bottom gears appeared to have lined up together with just the bottom spacer removed

i think that bottom gear is a gear from EPI. it is a 40 tooth hyvo gear. EPI says something on their website about offering shims with their gears

i bought it from somebody on here didnt get a spacer with it.. i forgot who sold it to me

do whatever you have to do to make sure that they are aligned perfectly, or you will know it real quick when the chain explodes from abnormal wear.

LMAO... i dont think i want to test that theory. i think ill pick up a yamaha 40 tooth hyvo and try to pawn off that EPI gear. my brother (michigander) picked up his first sled last december.. 01 srx had it for a week and the chain blew in hundreds of pieces destroying hin entire case. he emailed me the pics and the guy he bought it from put the SX style chain in it that was streched out pretty bad. luckily 800 just sent him a new chain case so he can ride the rest of the winter.
