Proper warm up procedure

FWIW I finished the season here last week and I ran the same set of plugs all season, once I started the proper warm up procedure. Now I just have to remember it for next season!
 
i used to foul plugs on my 98 srx 600, but that thing was famous for that. when i warm up my sled i only warm it up until the heat exchangers are warm to the touch or will melt a light dusting of snow off the running boards. i never have a problem with fouling on my 700 single pipe sleds.
 
my start up procedure
1.starter(choke) at full
2.once she starts i leave it there for a second
3.then drop it to half until she starts to die
4. the turn the starter off
5.blip the throttle til she will idle
6. let it warm up while i am putting on my helmet and gloves
and here is a thought if you have know where to clean it out,put it on a track stand and clean it out,this is what i do.
if the sled back fires it is not warmed up enough and that is what she is telling you!
i have owned 7 yamahas and NEVER,AND I MEAN NEVER FOULED A SINGLE PLUG ONCE.and i always folow thease steps above and no problems.....good luck
 
oh and on a srx i read in sno tech mag. to be started full choke and turn it off once started and then blip enough to keep the engine running.if plug fouling is still a problem the pilot air screw position should be verified (1.0 turn out) and can be turned 1/4 turn on problem machines to help reduce the chances of plug fouling. I do the same as you REDMATER to start my Viper. I have never had a problem. I ran the same plugs all last year. The plugs the sled came with new.
 
I do almost the same as soc. Only way I keep my tripple from wetting up plugs. Brent
 
wonder how many times someone can post on this??? cant seem to get the clear pic on how to run the choke yet, could you explain it a little more for us slow learners?? :ORC
 
I'm with Redmater,full choke, shut it off as soon as it starts. I start giving it throttle immediately. If it starts to die I toggle the choke on and off to keep it running if necessary and that's it. Also have never fouled a plug. I'm also not a fan of extended idling to warm-up after a minute or so leave at a gentle pace until confident it's fully warmed then gas it.

I would try and use the choke as little as possible. Try just starting it with the choke,flipping it off completely and then try holding the throttle open just below clutch enguagement until the rpms start rising and it is cleared out. See what happens. Soc
 
Not a good Idea to blip the throttle.Just give it a little choke to keep it running mine always starts to run on its own after a few blips of the choke

I agree, EYAs have helped me to not foul plugs anymore. Even when I did not touch the throttle with the ECS I would tend to foul them when I would go to take off after the sled had been idling for awhile. Never had any kind of problem with the EYAs, and they are less than half the price of the ECS.
 
Full open to start, when it pops, go full closed, wait 4-5 seconds, go to half position for ONLY one second, flip off. WAIT till rpm's start to change, go to half position again for one second. Continue for 1-3 minutes depending on how cold it is. Then have A buddie lift the back of the sled up and giver bout 1/4 throttle, get the track spinin' and clean off some of that ice while you clear out the motor. Sounds like alot of people are over chokin. Try to go with as little choke as you can, experiment with it.
