I was cleaning the primary clutch sheaves on my 98 srx 700 the other day a notice some hairline cracks on the inner sheave near the crank. Is this typical on this machine and am I looking at a new clutch? I have no idea how long its been like that.

it is pretty common to see them around the center of the clutch. When they start growing and moving out towards the edges of the sheave, that's when you need to start worrying. ;)!

Yeah be careful if the cracks start to grow. Someone on here had pictures of a clutch that came apart on them. If you happen to be in the way when it lets go it could be dangerous if not deadly!

i did that once, exploded the primary on a 700 SX at 9 grand, took out the hood, belly pan, footrest, secondary, clutch guard, powermadd box, and gauge pod. You don't want to do that either, but just make sure those cracks aren't growing and you should be alright. If you are really worried about it, just get the sheave replaced, then you will know for sure that its good.

Buy a new sheave to be safe my dads came apart on his sx. Caused a bunch of damage. If i were you for the safety of yourself, and sled buy a new one!

P.s this came apart at aprox. 9,300 rpm

Or instead of putting another sheave that is going to crack again put a polaris primary on. Much thicker sheaves.
