Uhh just venting but Sat I spent over 8 hours in the 95 degree shed restudding my track and I only got 72 of 192 done! The previous owner used different size studs (7mm and 5/16) and the plastic backings just buried the nuts so it made it extra difficult. I could get about 7 to go smooth then it would take an hour to get a tough one out then 7 good again, etc.

I am re using the blue backings but advice to anyone else is start with round alumn ones instead! That will make restudding much easier should you need to do it again. I must be crazy working on the sled with a lake no more then 100 yards from my shed in 95 degree weather ;):D

If Loctite was used when the studs were installed, it can be a real chore to remove them. Heating them with a heat gun makes it easier.

Cut them off

Backers are too cheap to bother saving....especially plastic. Just get a 4" grinder and put a really thin cutting wheel on it. Make your cut right where the nut hits the backer. You should be able to cut them off in about 15 seconds each. ;)! This is what I do with bent studs that wont allow the nut to thread off....sounds like your situation isn't mush better. I think it works pretty slick.

That is what I did on a few of them but the nuts are buried half way into the back so you litterally have to cut the backer in half to get under the nut, and try not to hit my nice camo 9830 track :)

Another method

Kinger.....another method to try is to use the same grinder and actually cut the nut on opposing sides of the stud. Then just hit the stud with a hammer and the nut will bust off and the stud should come right out. Pesky buggers sometimes arent they!!!

Uhh I got all the studs out finally with the exception of the about 12, I'm going to order backers and just hack these off. I think I have about 14 hours into removing almost all 192 and replacing with about 90 so far. Hacking the last 12 and replacing the rest of the 102 will go fast.

It was a lot of work to save that plastic backer, next time its all new round aluminum backers and call it good!
