I put the 8dn to work this weekend... 1000 mi on it total and 20+ miles non-stop towing the frozen ski-doo. Belt still works great...

What's typical as far as belt life is concerned? (I have a 2001 SXR700 with 2700 miles, and I think it's the original belt)

What should I look for as far as wear and replacement time?

Thanks,
MJB

look at the cracks and deep grooves in the inner part of the Yamaha primary. Hahahahha the 8DN is a great belt but it eats clutches. I lost my first one due to heat at 3000 miles. We stopped for a break in the woods and I was looking over my clutch and I noticed a huge crack all around a weight on the movable shieve. I was able to limp it back to my truck 20 miles and walked into my dealer that day (had a puller in my truck) he fixed it while I had a free cup of coffee. Doug

I've got 4,900 on my 8DN now and it still works great, this is my third one, my sled has 14,180 miles on it now (sx600r) I swear this sled is still like new. I put 295 miles on it yesterday in Vermont, planning on running the length of the state and back next weekend, (700 more miles on the 8DN)

Have a great, safe ride next weekend on the BtoB ride next weekend DT! I finally made it out on Fri. and last night. Trails were great both days, the groomer was out both times.
