seen a few polished tunnels and they look awesome just like a mirror. just wondering how they got the shine so crazy. tried doin it to mine but came out nothin like a mirror. any suggestions?
Thanks

to get past the inital roughness you need to go over it real good with oooo steel wool with some polish on it.

very hi numbered, the higer the better. I'd just bet a cutting wheel for buffing and a polish whell and do it that way. You can get them at any truck stop. maxdlx

Sand everything you intend to polish with 400 grit wet and dry sand paper. I use a Dewalt orbital palm sander but it just speeds up the process. You can get the same results sanding by hand. The better it looks after sanding, the better it will look after polishing. A green cloth wheel, available from most semi truck places and the green rouge on a 3000 rpm polisher turns it into mirror in seconds. I finish with pledge furiture polish to keep it from tarnishing.

if you have to do it all by hand you need to sand in a few steps. 600, 800, 1,000 and soak the paper before you start and keep it wet with a drop or two of dish soap in the water.

Been there done that

When I did mine I realized about 1/2 hour into the project that I wouldn't be doing it again. A LOT OF WORK. Anyway, just wanted to let you know that the tunnel I did was in pretty bad shape and I could get a better shine (and quicker) by using rubbing compound than I could with polish.

I used alot of mother liquid aluminum polish and steel wool to start with, Then do small ereas at a time and buff with many clean clothes , it also helps to use lots of polish and then buff with a moose sander with a clean cloth under it.
I still think all snowmobiles should have painted tunnels, much nicer and easier to keep clean.

i used a small bufffing bonnet on a drill with aluminum polish, cut right through it all and shined right up.but the finish will not stay that way with out a aluminum sealer.i would recommend a sealer, truck drivers use on there fuel tanks and wheels.like something from alcoa.it will keep the finish from oxidizing.....
