98 SRX, motor is stock except for V-force 2's, 50/40 helix, 89A-10's w/2.4's in the rear, 1.6's in the front, W-W-W primary, Green secondary at 70 degrees wrap, it engages at about 4200, overrevvs to about 8500.....pulls HARD off the line.....but falls flat on its face......I am only pulling 76-80 mph on radar for 500ft.......that seems a little slow to me??? The faces of both clutches get very hot after about two runs down the track (grass/clay), I'm not sure what's causing it? I'd like to gain at least another 5 mph to be competitive where I'm racing. What I am wondering (I know this a crapshoot here)........if I replace the 1.6 rivets in the front with 2.4's....and bring my rpm's back down to 8300......how much closer is that gonna get me to 85 mph? Or do I need to change my whole set up?

If your doing grass drags, its all about torque. I never reved mine over 8100 on the grass. As for your set-up, you can try adding more weight and see how much it helps. Or you can put in a set of 8BU-00's and get it even qicker. Maybe I should ask if your doing 500 ft drags, or 500 radar runs? anyway, have fun. ===SRXSRULE===

Run the sled at 8100 holeshot pulling to 8200- 8300 rpm max at end of run. You might want to tighten the secondary another 10 degrees...70 is a little loose ; especially on grass. You might have better luck running a 3.6 or 4.5 gram inner & less tip weight. I played with a similar set up. i think I had a 4.5 inner with about a 2.4 or .8 gram outer rivet & green at 80 wrap on snow. worked well..might want to try some 8bu-oo,s with that helix. About a .8 gram inner with a 3.6 gram outer iffin I remembers correctly should aughta be close!

The 01 likes a cold pipe & higher rpm,s. 84-8600 rpm on long lake runs vs 83-8400 rpm on a hot pipe for a 98-99. This is for a long wot lake run.

What clas are you running?Take the reeds out.Do you have it lowered you can gain a couple tenth's in just the skid and mph from less rolling resistance. What do you have in for gearing. Those weights are good for drag racing longer distances but there are others that are better for short distance. What other weight's do you have? Are you looking to spend a little cash and get into it serious like willing to buy different gears and clutch parts? What do you have on for a track, stud's?

let's see where to start.....Turk....thanks for the info.....I'll play around with that, I have a set of BU-00's in the garage.

Rules, I know its been a while since I've been on.....but this is a "grudge match" circuit set up by our local club at their track. we don't time the runs....its basically top speed on radar at 500 ft. I am basically trying to be a little more competitive with my buddy's Mach-Z with a Chuck Walters 830 motor. He consitantly runs 83-85 mph....I am a good 5 mph behind him right now.

Ryan, I am running a trail stock class....I run 700 and 800cc classes......the rules state that you must have a "stock" suspension......meaning it cant be lowered. I am running a .92" T-Cat camo track right now...with 240 1.175 trail studs. I also have the track turned backwards......it hooks extremely hard on grass and ice. I do have a set of bu's laying around.....I am running 22/37 gearing....I also have the stock 23 top gear....as well as a 21 top gear.....still running the stock 15w chain.....

if there's anything else you can suggest based on what I've mentioned....I'm glad to try it out....again...this is mainly for fun......

Also jack up your sled and lossen the front shock springs just so there's tension since you cant lower your travel you won't get busted like that and tighten your limiter straps. What will work good I made them out of white plastic but you can put some spacers on the bottom gap of your transfer rods.

Also what will the temp's be you.You can really gain alot from the jetting.I ran 140mains in the single digit's you just have to richen the bottem end up.

The 00-02 SRX,s seem to run faster;quicker when the motor is not heat soaked & only just slightly warmed up. The more back to back runs you do the more the performance falls off. The 98-99 SRX,s seem to get stronger. This is just what we have seen in my little tiny area of the world.

part of the problem is the 8dn beldt heating up.I used to sit on the lake all dayracing people and it seemed if you put a cold beldt on every couple runs it was faster that's if your making back to back runs though.
