I just got my 97 MM600 and am considering the same. The Yamaha shop in Kamloops B.C. claims that their tech has gone to Japan and knows how to do this. I am waiting for a price estimate and will post when I know more.

Please let me know any thing you find out . I am taking mine of and I am going to try to figure out exactly what those four solinoids do . Once I know that I should be able to by pass them . I hope .

the carbs won't and don't work.. yamaha has no solution the last time i checked, in fact, yamaha won't admit there is a problem although they quit using them after one year. i was considering changing the carbs to conventional but yamaha will not give any advice if the electronics will cause other problems..

The problem I see with changing to different carbs is getting the Tp sensor and throttle over ride to work . I do beleive the TP affects timming
And I know it affects the diagnostic light . I do not want to ride around all day with that light flashing . Besides that is the only way you know if it is over heating . I am a fuel injection tech at a Ford dealer ship . Ford used to try to adjust carbs with computers and it never worked . We figured out how to by pass them and and keep every thing else working . Only Ford gave us a lot more info on what was going on in the computer .

smart carbs
Don't sell yet guys. I have had lots of problems with these as well and my fix was to put these where they belong.Yes in the garbage. I replaced them with regular carbs off a 95. Jetting set at 152.5 mains, pilots 52.5,needles #2 slot works great now.

smart carbs
I am using both of them, the only sensors unpluged are the ones on the smart carbs and the air box. All of a sudden the computer got smart and now is sending a code, three blinks and a space.I am not worried about this now as it works great now. By the way I had to change my pilots to # 45 as she was to rich on bottom end. Like I said before the best thing a guy can do is get rid of these stupid smart carbs.

Marush,if you want that light to stop blinking . Go to radio shack and buy four 55 0hm resisters and install them where the solnoids were pluged in that should make the computer think that they are there and the light should work mormaly for the over heat . I would also leave the air temp sensor hooked up . That is the one in the front of the air box .it should have no efectt with out the solinoids .

more smart carb blues
Just wondering how you are doing with your smart carb swap...I have the same problem. I thought I had my smart carbs fixed but it still is too rich on the pto...especially at high rpm. So I am thinking that I need a new main(carb bowl) switch....but that costs a lot and then it will probably not work...so I found some carbs from a sx, maybe that is the way to go.

I think this is the same platform as the updated Phazer, which I'm told by the Kamloops BC Yamadealer is a great all-purpose sled with a proven bullet proof motor. Why not throw an old Phazer motor into it with an Aaen pipe and Boyseen reeds. You can probably get a motor for $300-500. It doesn't seem worth the money to rebuild the 600 twin if its just going to melt down again. It seems too many people have too many of the same problems and the motor isn't really that strong anyways in my opinion.

Selling used smart carbs??
Would anyone sell their old carbs for parts? I am 99% sure all I need is a new solenoid. My yamaha tech still recommends fixing these carbs...maybe he wants to sell parts. In my experience it is best to change as little as possible...one thing seems to lead to another. I guess I have rideen around 4000 miles on smart carbs and they work excellent when they work. Personally I don't have time to tinker with sleds. Anyone want to sell some smart carb parts?

I had my first ride today with out smart carbs ,and my sled never ran this good before . i would sell them to you but I need to leave the solinoids hooked up so that the lite won't keep flashing . If I ever figure out how to beat that then I would . So far I have not had extra time to
figure that out . Your solinoids are very easy to test ,take them off the carbs and connect to a 12 v dc current just touch it like typing and watch the little plunger go in and out . Those solinoids don't go very often usually
something else is wrong .

thanks
Wilson: Thanks for the reply...I will test again the way you said...mine runs fine for a 1/2 mile at full throttle then it fouls out the plug . Where did you get and how much did the other carbs cost?
