I was working on my sled (02 Viper) this past week and when I was screwing the filter back on the airbox I dropped a screw between the airbox and the engine block. I looked for the thing for about a 1/2 hour and can't find it anywhere. :o| :o| :o| :o| Besides driving me nuts because I can't find it, do you think I need to worry about it?

lost screw

i coundlt even tell you how many i dropped in my belly pan but just go to the dealer and get a new one they are very in expensive. when you are riding they tend to come loose into a visible location. go to the yamaha website and use the fische to find your part number before you go to the dealer for much faster service!!! it wont hurt anything but it will eventually come up one of these days you ride when you pop open your hood. you could also try using a extendable magnet rod to fish around for it. the extendable magnet works on some ocassions with a flash light ;)!

nononono. Just go buy an extendable pen magnet. I drop nuts and bolts all the time you just use that tool. It can extend to about 3 feet. Works great for picking up all that little junk.

im pretty sure thats what i said maybe he could get it out with a (extendable magnet)

Yes, and I wouldn't even want to try and count, how many dropped screw's we've pulled out of Tom's sled! ;):D
Happy Birthday Tom!
Bill

happens all the time, there's 2 places they tend to migrate to, first one is the front right behind the cast section of the bulkhead (a real bitch to get to) the other one is in the back where the heat exchanger tie in comes out and the steering brace is. sorry I'm not to good at describing it, but hopefully you know the spot.

either way call it lost and get a new one it's not worth fishing for

I have dropped about 12 of them and only recovered one. If I ever decide to shave some pounds from my sled, thats where ill have to start.

Thanks guys. It is good to know I am not the only one and that I can stop worrying about it!

Ah, just pull the engine and then they are easy to find. Plus it is fun, and good practice for future mods . . .

I just roll the sled to the side to get it roll that way, and then use a flexible magnet. The simple extendable ones don't fit very well under the engine, but the flexible ones go most anywhere.

Yamaha airboxes are the hardest to remove and have way too many screws.
I put some quick release clamps on my viper and they worked very well.
