hey don, just wondering what your thoughts were on any h.p. gains on a viper with a stock pipe on it, doe the porting help with a stock pipe at all or is it just resticted that bad.other single pipe sleds can make 140 hp why cant this triple. i have got 7 nice viper cylinders here and thought of maybe getting a set ported,i ran a ported and piped sled on the trail before and it was a little finicky, but with a stock pipe it worked great 700 sxr, but dont know if there was any gains on it either

I am going to be doing some dyno time on a viper here real soon, I may have a big bore kit for the public, but I wont say what its going to be till I dyno it, we have a new dyno about 15mins from here now so I will be doing a bit more research on all this stuff. I dont say "yes" that the single viper will gain much hp, but its got to help being you open up the exh port and help the flow thru the bottom of the cylinder, the piston mod also helps to cool the piston crown bottom and provide more oiling for the pin, this porting and piston work shows up as more grunt though when your riding it. When you uncork the viper with triples, all this stuff just shines even better.

780 for both sleds

Tom, going to do both. I want to take them a bit further then whats out on the market, lake race type porting, big carbs, big bore pipes etc. I want to dyno the viper with pipes and the srx before I say what they will make hp wise, it looks promising so far. thanx

p.s., If you want more, get another set of heads and we can add a little more squeeze for some backyard drags, youll need some race gas for it then.

don with that 780 for the srx, if it will be more than about a 15HP gain from the port work you did for me which put me around 155HP please put my name on the very top of your customer list for that. im sure you will need my cylinders, heads, pistons for swap.... if you can get 180 on pump gas im sold!!

I cant say what its gonna be hp wise yet, I will let ya know what it dyno's at. Theres lots of things to take into account, like stock pipes? carb size, porting and case porting. Gonna do it in stages, see what makes a differance and what is just snake oil sales.

Whats the going price for a 780 kit these days from other sources?
Since I dont have high overhead, I am sure I can beat the prices if they are what I think they are like over $2200.00??

hey don another quick question should be easy, does evening out compression on a stocker help, like aLL 21 cc, what jetting would a guy put in that pto?with stock single pipe

sorry had a kid screaming on my lap last post,i have a speedwerx head with all 21 cc domes, was wondering how it would work on a stocker, i heard that yamaha had some heat problems in that pto as a stock pipe, so they droped compression and said it was so you dont have to stagger jetting, but who caresif you have to stagger jetting, did it for years, i think it was just a cop out on a problem, thats what i heard anyway

single pipe and more compression

think I would run at least 1 size fatter then the other 2 cylinders . A guy would most likely want to keep an eye on the wash in that hole till you know it would be safe for long runs.

ejcamaro

Sure you can use the cylinders and heads you already have.

Cooling should be no problem

did you get that stator yet don? do you honestly think that straight accross coomperesion woould make more power?

stator, single pipe mods

ya, it came yesterday, I have not checked it yet, dont know about the plugs on it, they are melted together pretty good. it might be ok, will let ya know, I am trying to get ready to leave for a 2 day race this weekend here.

I really couldnt tell you honestly if the viper will make any more power from all straight compression with the single pipe, have not checked it. I cant see it being a major differance. Your trying to stuff all 3 cylinders thru 1 pipe, the pulse being retuned back to each cylinder has to be minimal compared to a triple pipe set up, I would think the biggest area of the problem is where the y pipe meets the pipe, the pulse would have to divide and hit all 3 at the same time, therefore dividing it by 3 weakens it greatly.

The pulse that is returned when you have a triple pipe or pipe for each cylinder is kinda like a supercharger, it returns a bit of the expelled fuel/air charge back into the cylinder to be burnt again, thus the engine makes more power.Thats only part of the reason that the triples make so much power increase on the engine, 118 to 154+hp, thats a giant jump!
