OK, I've read all the stats on each. All the pros and cons of each. Price seems to be somewhat equal. Yet I'm still very undecided.

I got a great deal last spring on an 04 Viper ER, so I have some cash to put into it. At first I was leaning towards the Expert X. Know I've been hearing more good things about the M-10. Here's my deal.

I ride hard and persue the groomed trails most of the time for WOT but want a suspension that can handle the junk when I get into it. I'm not one for messing with the setup. I want something that I can dial in and just leave it. Since the ER is already heavy, I'd like to shave some weight. Not too thrilled about the problems with Ice build up in the Expert, but hear the M-10 is actually heavier. While top speed is not the most important thing to me, I'm not too thrilled about loosing 4-6 mph as they claim the M-10 will give me. Will the 8" wheel upgrade really help that problem? I love the looks of the Expert but am not sure about it's inability to be dialed in for all types of conditions. If I go with the M-10, does the shock package really make that much of a diference? Will either of these hurt my front handling?

Now you see how lost I am on my decision. :o| Lots of questions. hopefully someone can give me the advice that helps.

I had a 136" Expert X in my 02' Viper and I really liked it. Setup on it was extreemly simple and the only trail side adjustment you would ever consider is the weight transfer knob. If your going to play out on the lakes or in deep snow you might dial up the weight transfer. The right quality even in the rough spots was far better than stock. From my experience I would highly recommend the Expert-X

I have an expertx on a piped 02 Viper and agree 100% w/ ViperTom's post.
You need to listwhat is important to you in order or importance and we can objectively tell you which is best.
Personally, the way I see it if comfort in the smaller washboard bumps is your most important performance requirement, than the M10 may be your choice. Other than that the expertX out performs the M10 in all other parameters. FYI, If you saw the ranking of expertX vs M10 on TY it is skewed by expertX customer service responsiveness very poor rating. If you take that score out, expertX wins hands down. My buddies & I, who independantely installed the expertX, thought it was straight forward. Customer responsive will not help it perform better on the trail. I thought this should have been a side note to mention and not part of the scoring. Note: If you like "on rails" feel in the corners while acelerating hard, the expertX will reduce ski pressure more than stock and M10. Most sleds reduce ski pressure in the corners while acelerating hard, but the expertX does it more because it has incredible weight transfer.

Sledboy,
Are you saying the expert takes away the "on rails" feel in the corners? That slot car feel is what I like most about Yamis.

If you have a fist full of throttle, it will reduce the ski pressure that gives you the "on Rails" cornering.

Any onne else with an expertX of anything to add on this?

Zach,
send me a PM with your phone #.

I think you are making this decision more difficult than it is.

Roy, did you do any changes to the front of your Viper after adding the Expert X? I've decided on the Expert. Just curious what other updates I should do.

Thanks for the help.

ps: best place to buy the expert?

Front end mods

I have been running the expert in different sleds for years and I love it. Aaron Excell at Excell Motorsports in New York has tons of experience with different set ups. He has a front shock set-up that is DIALED. He uses the stock KYB fronts and revalves them then puts on a tripple set of Elka springs. I have tried Works and Ohlins and I have gone back to Aarons set up. Those Elka springs and PRICEY though. By the time you are all done it will be $400 bucks. Money well spent in my opinion. Call him up, he's a sponsor on this site. 607 674 4323. Let me know if you want to see a photo of my shocks. ;)!

ccperformance has convinvinced me that the M-10 is the best for me.

Other than lake running, the M-10 should be best for all other situations.

A decision!!!

Good, I'm glad someone finally convinced you.....you obviously can't make a decision for yourself!!!

Z, per your quote "ccperformance has convinvinced me that the M-10 is the best for me. Other than lake running, the M-10 should be best for all other situations."

I bet ccperformance sells M10's and NOT expertX!

Wrong. He sells both. I'm not that stupid! He gave me prices on both and detailed information. Take a look in the review section. ccperformance was part of the testing. The guy was just honest and trying to help a fellow TY member. Unlike some people.

Are you talking about cbperformance? If so, you talked to Bruce. He is a very honest, up front guy, and not just trying to sell you one of his products. Everytime I have talked to him, he has given me a prompt response, and if he didnt feel it was good, he let me know, or gave me the pros and cons of whatever i asked. He is a very reasonable, honest guy, just giving you his opinion on what is best Im sure!

I have been looking to get into a SC10-III into my SRX. It is supposed to be better and less breaking then the M10.Expert X is a little pricey.I heard guys on here say that the M10 is subject to breakage and upkeep is always needed. The person I am thinking of buying the SC10 from has it on his SRX.He also has a M10 for sale, but talked me out of it.We need to hear all these opinions on the skids so people can make a proper decision beforw making the purchase.

It would be cool to see a head to head comparo of all the suspension swaps that have been done and see how each unit works out all in the same sled. That would be a cool write up.

suspension

Ther is no right or wrong answer here. Everyone riding style is different than the next one. That is why if you send your shocks to have revalved they want to know weight and how you ride. The same with clutching . It depends on each person style of riding and weight.
