it isnt snow season yet, but the sportbikes have been helping us bridge the gap. hopefully this will apease those that like to hear about our travels. i know i need to do another story and picture thread on last years sled riding for the masses, i'll try to get to that soon (no promises). the following is as posted at cycleforums.com, had a few people flame me for my writing this. they dont appreciate or act like the family i have here on TY.
sunday morning dawned beautiful, bright, sunny and alittle crisp reminding me fall is just a few short weeks away. the day finds me and the mrs, riding north from our home base in laingsburg to mt pleasant, leaving the hustle and bustle of lansing, work, home and responsibilities behind us. we then headed west down m-20 to big rapids (lots of rollers and a few real nice tight curves) pine trees, sand, lakes, old farms, and even a wildlife game ranch complete with a very large white tailed buck close to the fence dot the land scape unwinding us from the previous hectic week, and recharging us for the comming work week. slowing the pace in big rapids we fueled the bikes, and fueled ourselved at lunch time at qdoba in big rapids, noticed alot of traffic, i am guessing classes are starting soon for ferris. took biz131 to old m-20 and rode lots of twisties (a few with sand and gravel, which i ride point so i warn the wife) to m-37, then headed south to newaygo, finding a few higher speed sweepers. the road here is bordered by hardwood trees of the manistee nat'l forrest and in places is like riding in a tunnel. upon getting to newaygo we found a larger harley only group on a sunday ride in the area. we opted to by pass the larger group and rode east through the croten & hardy dam areas of the muskegeon river system by ourselves(lots of twisties following the river and dams). cheated the system alittle by jumping on 131 south to m46 to help us get pointed in the direction home. down m-46 east we passed through smaller towns and villages mostly encountering cagers heading home from their weekend retreat to the northland. on to m- 66 heading south to stanton and rode back twisties we know heading home through vickeryville, crystal, stopping in carson city to to rest, stretch and grab a very large (although they claimed it was a medium) ice cream cone, saddling up for the last leg of our adventure, i was relieved we were close to home and the relaxation of the couch but, saddened that our journey and our day spent together touring on our sport bikes was comming to a close. we rode through the old mill towns of hubbardston, the ghost town of matherton, farming communities of pewamo, westphailia, dewitt and home down our beloved round lake road. all in all, almost 275 miles in the saddle today, which was our biggest sunday ride together, to date. people ask why lynne and I spend so much time together. wondering why we dont do things seperately very often. my answer is simple, my wife is my best friend, she is an extension of me, all i want or need. we complete each other and enjoy each others company. i feel if you work on your relationships now, they will be there forever. friends and children move on and find their own way and their own lives. what's left when they are gone will be the two of us, smiling, enjoying life and each other, chasing the sun for one more day with each other. all i can do is thank fate and ask, is there anymore to life? till next sunday's ride, be safe. ski
