Anyone out there installed a late model pro action rear suspension into an SRV or Exciter?? I was thinking of doing this to my sons' sleds. Any advice would be appreciated! We looking to get a better ride out of them for the trails.

how about a polaris suspension? lighter, tons avaliable, easier to install and remove and a better ride!

How are they easier to install?
What year and models do you recommend?

the polaris suspension only has 4 mounting bolts as opposed to 6 with the yamaha. i would get an edge chassis suspension.

My uncle just put in a Polaris Xtra10 in his 89 Exciter...
I wanna do the same to mine.

Alot of people really enjoy both cat and poo skids in their st yamahas.

Looking for a better ride ? Consider extensions and a 136" track especially if it's near the end of track life? A Plus is more traction !

I am trying to do this as cheap as possible. Just trying to get a few more years out of these older sleds. They run great and my boys love riding them.
So is putting a different skid in pretty strait forward or is it a lot of eyeballing and drilling holes where it looks like it should be??

its not that hard. if you can measure accurately and pull rivets its easy. choose a skid and i will get measurements for you.

skid
I got an rx1 skid to use, anyone know what measurement i should use for this. I was going to measure my srx but the rear shock mounting locations are a little different.

Do not eyeball and drill where it looks like it should be. Measure carefully and accurately. If you are off as little as 1/4" it can make the suspension bind, or at least not work properly. Just measure from the jackshaft center and relative to the plane of the top of the tunnel.

mounting holes
Yeah but what are the measurements for an rx1? Kind of hard to measure if I don't know how far back and down i should go.

Check out this thread from www.vmax4.com. It gives all of the measurements from the center of the driveshaft back to the mounting locations. Hope this helps. http://www.vmax4.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=320

How did this project ever turn out? Also, I am loathe to put anything in a Yammie except Yamaha parts (Ski-doo and polaris, blasphemy!).
So my question, which has been somehwat adressed-Can I put a newer 121" Pro-Action in my '93 Exciter II SX?
If so, what's needed?
Thanks for the feedback in advance!

I ended up putting a '01 SRX skid in my sons '82 SRV. One reason is because I have a SRX so I made up a template to mark the holes out of poster board.
WOW!!!! what a difference!! I made up some reinforcement plates to go where the skid mounts to tunnel out of 1/8 steel. I popped riveted them on. The front mounts barely cleared the foot rest, I had to dimple the area so that the bolt could have room to go into the front part of the suspension.
It was well worth the effort though and I would do it again.
The local dealer was impressed to say the least.
My son loves the new set up. The original skid was worn out, it did have a new shock though, so it had to come out anyway. I put a like new track on it and replaced the bearings on the front drive shaft to.
This thing looks mean now and actually sets up in the air like all the late model sleds do.
I also installed SRX plastic skies on it to.
If you want i can take some pics and post them. let me know. I may even have the template still.
