The basics: 96 VMax 600XT
What's the clearance supposed to be between the track and the rear shock upper mounting point?
I just replaced the relay rods, and there's maybe 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch between the top of the eyelet on the shock and the track. And that's without anyone on the sled.
Is this normal? Seems a bit too close to me.
The rear shock is preloaded at about the "standard", which is 2.20". The front shock is currently preloaded at or just below the minimum recommended, which is 2.07". The track has about 1.5" of deflection.
One more question, what's the torque spec for the "forward" bolt that carries the shock and relay rod assembly?
Anyone? Thanks.

as far as torque spec - on suspension bolts its "tightned good & USE LOCK-TITE !"

im not sure about your sled, but the older VK540's had a close clearance and the track would slap down on it at times and wear the upper shock mount, Yamaha had an optional wheel kit you put on either side of the upper shock mount bolt which cured the problem, see your dealer to see if this may apply to your sled also.
