The '98 pipes from a srx without the flanges will they function just the same as the '99 and newer style pipes with the flanges? The only real difference that I would think of is the gasket isn't quite as stout on the 98 pipes and therefore might leak more than the pipes with the flanges. Any reason they went to flanges? I can look at the bright side the gaskets are cheaper and there is a small weight saving if I use the '98 style pipes on my 01 srx. If they don't work well I'll have a set of cheap pipes for sale. Just looking for opinions.

It is my understanding that the 98 npipes are tuned towards the 600 srx, that is why they changed the pipes for the 700srx in 99. In light of that you could only assume you would give up some hp using 98 pipes on anything newer.

Thanks for the info srxtwins, anyone else know if there is a reason they went to flanged pipes in 99. I have a set off of a 98 and want to know if I made a mistake thinking I could drop them on an 01 700 srx.

pipes,pipes and more pipes
There is no dimension change in the pipes from 98-02, only thing they did was add the moveable exh donuts for increased sealing ability, the old ones were prone to leaking and popping out in hard bumps, the 99 and newer solved that problem. I have checked the pipes and they wont make 1 bit of power differance.

Thanks mrviper700. That helps alot, that was my thought that the joint is a little weaker (sealing) on the 98 style pipes.
