I have a 96 VMAX 600XT. My water temp light goes on as soon as I start it and stays on. How do I test whats wrong? The sensor, wire short?? When I open the hood just 2", the light goes off.

sounds like a wiring problem to me. check the wiring around where the hood hinges.
