Hello,

I have a 1989 Yamaha Ovation that has been sittting for a couple of years. I was able to fire the slep up and it runs fine at idle. The sled bogs when I squeeze the throttle to the point where it won't even spin the track.

I tok the carb off and sprayed it down with carb cleaner, blew out all of the holes and reinstalled it. It ran the same.

I took it into a local mechanic and he did the same kind of cleaning and said it didn't looked like it was gummed up.

I reinstalled it and it still bogged. I am able to get some track spin if I slap the throttle lever rapidly with my palm, however, it will eventually bog.

I'm guessing there is some carb problem and help would be appreciated??

I think the mechanic said it sounded like it's starving for fuel.

Thanks,

Steve

Does your seld have TORS? I just had the same problem with my viper, I thought it was the carbs but it was a bad TORS switch.

I'm not sure if that has the T.O.R.S, I will check. I know if have that on my 94 VMAX.

Did you take the carbs right apart to clean or just sprayed and blew them out. My opinion this fast type cleaning does not work very well.
You need to pull out the jets and scrub them clean as well as the needle.
I use a toothbrush to clean the carbs.
Examin the jets and needle for wear or plugged wholes.

Bogs can be caused by carbs, tors or clutches.
The other thing I have seen is leaky crank seals causing a bog.

Good Luck.

Thanks,

What solution do you use to clean the carbs. I'm not sure if carb cleaner is strong enough.

It does have TORS and I found that you can bypass it by connecting the two wires. I'm not sure that is the problem though because it runs when I pump the throttle real fast.

You need to check the pulse line for cracks and the fuel pump for the same. Sounds like you are pulling air in the system and it will starve the carb. TORS will do the same thing also. Good luck

Thanks!

Thanks Viper and Yamyrider!!

I took Vipers advise and checked the TOR. I bypassed the two eires by coneecting them to each other and the sled ran awesome. Now I guess I have a really clean carb and need to fix the TORS part that is defective.

Two years ago I had 4 sleds, two of them were a brand new SRX and a new SXR for the wife. I was a regular at this site. With the crappy WI winters I could never ride and sold them. Now we got some snow and I had to fire up the vmax and ovation. They are not the greatest but you don't get anything for them if you sell them and they are better than nothing.

Anyway it brought back memories of why I love this site. I guess I'm off to tackle my new problem with TORS. Thanks again guys!!
