When I got my viper back from Wohlfeils Yamaha it started backfiring. Since then, I put Speedwerx triples on and changed to 162.5 mains. I still have the backfiring. Additionally, T.O.R.S. kicked in. Anyone know somebody in Mid-Michigan that can fix this and/ or some advice?

I may be going through there late next week, if nobody can help out before then.

What plugs to you have in there? make sure they're solid tops, not threaded. I've seen a lean condition cause backfiring...what have you changed, and what stayed the same? Gotta ask, why put pipes on it if you've got an engine problem?! It tends to make things more complicated. Also, call Wolfiels back and tack to service...if the problem started after they worked on it, they need to make it right.

New work on anything with an engine is always suspect when a problem arises. Good luck!

if your tors kicked in is your throttle cable adjusted right

Thank you for the advice on the TORS. I'll re-adjust the cable.. I took down the carbs to put new mains in them and re-adjusted the cable... I probably did that. now for the backfiring problem...
I took it to Wolfeils 4 times and had the Yamaha rep try to do something for me. Each time they claimed something new was wrong.. bad gas / dirty jets ect / faulty wiring / dirty windshield .. whatever. They decided they no longer wanted to help me. (consequentally they screwed up my v-max too.) I am using BR9ES(R) plugs. Do we recommend something else?
The pipes were added due to a friend who has a firecat F7 and since I cannot be out done, I had to increase hp.

When my Viper backfired it was because i had bad plugs. Changed from BR9ES to BR9EYA, and it never backfired again.

Thank you, I will contact him as soon as the weather cools down. I did re-adjust my throttle cable and it solved the TORS problem. So far I haven't had backfiring since the last time I started it.

I'll look into that. Has it fouled any out?
