I am going to be sending my pipes out for coating, and was thinking about having the piston domes done. Anyone tried it? I've heard about it, but nezer had the chance to speak to someone who had done it.

I've got the skirt, domes, and head coated. Who knows if its just wasted money.

skirts don't last. wears off. don't do the pipes. coating will possibly change jetting & performance.

I've got the pipes coated also. If anything the jetting should be more consitent.. Pipes stay at the same temp.

thanks guys, but does the dome being coated really help? any gains?
I run free air motors, the pipe will be done. Just wondering if the piston domes are worth the extra $

I think it would help a free air by pumping the heat out and keeping the pistons cooler.

Where are you having the pipes done?

get the pipes done, it helps so much with temperature stability. Only downside is that if you are talking about racing then you have to have a longer warm up period before each race to make sure that the pipes are fully up to temp in order to get maximum performance. Pipe warm up takes quite a bit longer with coated pipes.

if you get the domes coated its also a good idea to get the skirts done too. the piston doesnt get as hot when coated and doesnt expand as much causing a little looser fit in the bore. coating the skirts keeps the wear in check in that situation.

By coating the pipes they will become hot sooner and stay hot longer hot pipes make power. For the poly moly on the piston skirts, they ech the skirts before they aply the poly moly and it gets into the pores of the aluminium.even thow after time it seems that it's wore off it's still there in the skirt itself.
