Being the 2001 and the 2002 srx's both have the same cdi what would all be involved in putting DCS onto a 2001 SRX.I know the coolant rail is different, but can it be done without changing the whole wiring harnes
 

you would need the water rail, wiring harness,cdi, and gauge pod from the 2002. me and a friend did this to my 98 mountain srx. we took my wrecked 2002 and swapped everything over including the motor to the 98 mtn srx chassis... you will also have to drill holes to mount the 2002 cdi in because it is wider!!!
 
Then why do the 2001 and 2002 srx share the same cdi part number if they are different
 
holy crap!!! they are the same. my advice would be to ask your dealer if they will swap but that is weird. i know the 98 srx cdi is way different i expected the same from the 2001 in which i forgot to mention that the stators are different as well.. but with the correct homework you can make this work no problem!! IMO the money for the parts is just not worth it man. if you found a wrecked 02 sled or somebody was parting one out would be the way to go. the positive thing you have going for you is that 2000 -2002 srx motors were good year motors and you wouldnt gain hardly anything by adding DCS components except slightly increased reliability. if you jet correctly for riding conditions youll be fine with your 01.
 
There was a post on Amsnow last year that listed all the parts needed and the part #'s - seems like it was about $800 to $900 to do it - let me look through my notes, I may have printed it out

wow!!! thanks yammiman. thats great info to know. my brother has an 01 srx as well and had asked me about it. would you mind sending me a pm with the part #s needed for that? thanks, tom
 
srx cdi box

Wont to here something else weired a freind of mine just bought a high rpm cdi from Hauck and it looks identicle to to stock box to the T.Now does he reprogram them???, or does he have them made by Mishubishi..I always thought that they were a solid state SEALED circuit board none servicable units.
 
look at the numbers on box

Here is what you look for, is the part number on the box 8dn or is it 8ek? the viper box interchanges with the 01 srx , hauck uses it as the high rpm box, been there bought one already. The viper box is alot more timing and will allow the engine to run at a higher rpm with less negative advance then the stock srx box will. As far as the 02 box, I have a wiring diagram and the knock sensor leads goes directly to the cdi box, the box has 28 wires coming off it, I dont have a 01 service manual, have someone count the number of wires ciming out of a 01 box.
 
doesn't the viper box have alot more advance on the lower compression cylinder then the other two.
 
I count 24 leads to and from the cdi , on the 2001 srx wiring diagram

I believe that was the simplest convertion, from 2001 to 2002. From a 2000 to 2002 there was a little more involved..
 
Looks like I'm not the only one that remembered that thread - I have always jetted my 02's in between the 01 and 02 jetting (if you are stock) and my DCS very rarely goes off - good luck
