My friend has a 98' SRX that is not in the best of shape. It's been a U-576 boat twice now and just does not get the TLC it should. At the end of last year the sled started backfiring when you pulled to the road side stop or just came to a stop on the trail (BANG!! and the guy 3 sleds away gets hit in the head with flying snow ice from the blast, pretty funny actually). I swapped out TORS and that was not the problem. I messed with a bunch of stuff but could not get the backfire to stop. The sled is wicked fast on the lake and long runs but this backfire is just too funny. My SXR-700 lost a ring and I got to ride this SRX for an entire night and what a fun ride it was. The backfire is even way funny because of the size of the flame that shoots out from under the sled. You can make it BF by flipping the flipper just right. So, does anyone have any ideas of where to start looking for this backfire problem before we blow the reeds out? Remember it was sunk, I am thinking CDI or some sensor that has to do with timing. It only backfires after it goes above 3000RPM then let it come back down BLAMMMMM just once. Like the pipes are filling with fuel because the CDI turned off the spark for a sec. Doug

DOUG, HEARD FROM 696 YOU HAVE A APPEX COMING !! COOL. NOW THAT YOU LIVE IN WEBSTER HOPE YOU WILL JOIN US AT WEIDMANS!!!, ANYWAYS NO CDI PROBLEM ON THAT 98, IF IT WAS, SLED WOULD BE STONE DEAD. ANYWAYS ITS EITHER EXTERNAL COIL BREAKING DOWN OR IN THE CARBS. THAT BACKFIRING IS UNBURNED FUEL TAKEING A CHARGE, I WOULD NOT RUN THAT UNTIL ITS FIX BECAUSE SOONER OR LATTER IT GONNA TAKE OUT CRANK SEAL!! 3:16 (tony)

Thanks Tony, your right about the GT and I juat hung up with 696. It's funny you responded because I was gonna knock on your door about his backfire. My GF lives in Gananda and I drive by your house 2x a day now. I was wondering about a coil being bad since it's really the only exposed electrical component. It's possible that only one of the 3 pipes is blasting out a backfire. Troubleshooting this might be a real PITA however. Thanks for the tip, I will let you know how it goes. Doug

DUDE, NO PROBLEM STOP BY ANYTIME. GIVE THOSE EXTERNAL COILS A GOOD LOOK OVER, REMEBER THEY ARE MOUNTED ON MOTOR AND I SEEN A SXr LIKE YOURS DO SAME THING. I REALIZE THIS IS A SRX THOUGH! BUT THIS TURNED OUT TO BE BROKEN WIRE CUTTING OUT SPARK. MY REAL GUESS IS THOUGH ITS CARBS LEAKING DOWN INTO CASE. THATS UNBURNED FUEL CAUSEING THAT BACKFIREING. THAT APPEX WILL BE A AWSOME RIDE. !! 3:16 (tony)
