I have an 05 Venom that I am happy with except for the power. I have received great feedback here on the various mods that I can make etc.
A local dealer has a Red 03 Viper that I can buy for my sled and about $1800. dif. So my options are 1. Mod the Venom.( stud, clutch. jet, reed spacers etc) 2. By the Viper for about twice the cash difference that I would spend on the Venom if I Mod. things, or 3.Ride the Venom one more year, take less of a hit next year trade in wise, and buy a 07 Yami. assuming that the insurance is not bonkers due to the CCs of the motor.
The group that i ride with mostly ride Vipers, XC 600's, F6 and F7s.
I don't have to be the first across the lake, but I want to "be right there" when we are on the trails.
Thanks,

do you ride mostly groomed trails and lakes? Or do you ride in alot of powder, that requires alot of rear suspension travel? If you just ride nice groomed trails,a nd lakes, an SRX would be a great investment, and could prolly pick one up at a pretty good price. They are great ont he trails due to there flat cornering abilitys, and also great on the lakes due to there power. Otherwise, I would get the viper as they are very mod friendly, especially with pipes.

have you ridden a viper? if you like it as it is (power wise) then I would say do it. if you think it would ben ice and you could add power later, dont bother. it is a nice reliable sled in stock form, but pipes make it very tempermental and a gas hog. clutching and some suspension tuning is about all I would do. I am adding a ripsaw to mine and I think it will make a HUGE difference! hope this helps!

Id hold onto your Venom for another year and get an '07. The current Yamaha 4-strokes are awsome and Ive heard that Yamaha is planning to make radical changes for '07.
You should demo ride a 4-stroke this winter. I think that once you do it will change your perspective on sleds. Most people here on TY who have riden the 4-strokes wouldnt go back to a 2-stroke for all the money in the world.

yes, triple pipe your 4 stroke. You wont believe the difference.....

We ride groomed trails and a few lakes.
I have ridden the Vipers and love the "snort" that they have on the trail.
If I keep the Venom, I have Viper shocks that I'll have rebuit and revalved to put in the Venom, making the only real diference in the motors. I'm thinking that if I stud and clutch the Venom, and get some zing out of her, I might be happy enough for now, but I hate to put the money into that if I still won't be satisfied.
One other problem is the Venom is blue, Beautiful!, The Viper is red, nice, but not blue.
Thanks for the input.

venom will still be down on power, if you want more power you might as well upgrade to the 700. lots more stuff out there to mod the 700 PV motor with if the 700cc's isnt enough. you wont get arm ripping power by clutching and studding the venom its down on cc's and no powervlaves. i dont think you are going to see "major" changes in the line up for 07, so unless you like a current sled in the line up and you can wait... it all comes down to personal preference. ski

Id really look into getting a Vector over a Viper. The torque of those 4-strokes is unbelievable.

Go to Barrs in dewitt Ia and see about trading it for the brand new 03 rx-1 they have as a left over. That would get you every thing you need. Maxdlx
Barr's has a few left over sleds. 03 RX1, Red Viper, 600 SXR, and a used 700 Vmax.
O ya, that apex they have in is bad
