RE: Clutch Shim Questions
Hey guys, I had my mmax engagine at 4500 RPM and staying pretty well at 8600 rpm right through while driving full throttle. I put some shims on it from Bender, man they are huge, he sent me 4 different sizes to try, they range from about 1/8" thick to 3/8" I didn't realize they would be so big, is this right?? anyhow I tried the smallest two, one at a time and my engagement RPM went up about 200 rpm more each time but my total max rpm also went up, I thought shims wouldn't affect top RPM?? should I add more weight to get her from 8900 back down to 8600?? I checked the primary shieves, they are fully shifting out in 1/8 mile with 22/39gears 8tooth drivers, or should I try to gear up to 23/39's, this should lower the rpm's a little also right by lugging the engine a little more? Also, how can you tell how thick a shim to go before the spring will bind? should I just keep going bigger untill i find it won't fully shift out anymore (binding), and finally should I put a slightly smaller total force spring to conpensate for the bigger shims? I like it engaging at 5000 RPM, it really rips off the start.

man you must have got some mean looking shims......my opinion would be if you want high engagement look for a higher pretension spring and try not to play with the shims cuz not only will the spring bind but your primary may weaken throughout time.....hauck spring orange has a high pretension and also dalton green/black is even higher....i tried both these springs with 8bus and can get that 5000 engagement.....
