How does preload affect clutch engagement?

Hey guys, I took some peopl'es advice in taking out my shims and getting a higher preload spring, If I get one with a higher preload and similar total force should the shifting be similar, only a higher engagement rpm? if so , how much will I need to go from 4500 rpm with a 45 preload up to 5000 o5 5200 rpm engagement? is there a formula? I seen stiffer ones at mountain performance that are listed below, what will they bring up the rpm to?? anyone using them?

No wat to answer that as it all depends on where your weight in the profile is (8AB will pop at 4100 with Y-W-Y and the same total weight in a 8DN-20 will pop at 3400 with the same Y-W-Y). Now, if you keep your weights the same and go from a 40 to a 45 you most likely will go up in RPM's about 400-500. What are you trying to get with a 4500+ engagement. With a MM700 you will trench all day long at that high. I would think you would want about 3500 -3700. Doug

I like it high for drag racing on hard packed course, she is in more of her HP range up there and pulls harder out of the hole, I have the 2" camoplast finger track which hooks up awesome on hard pack, I was told for drag racing, you want the highest engagement speed you can get without spinning, I need higher then 4500 to do this, I have it now at 5000 with a shim and I like it, she pulls hard right off the start.
