I've got an 04 Viper ER. I'm considering removing the electric start for weight savings. Having the ability to turn a key doesn't mean much to me. Do you guys think it will be worth it? And, is it a complicated process?

Would be interested in the Electric start if you remove it, how much would you want for it?

I think you must have too much time on your hands... Unless your drag racing for a living... IMHO it's not gonna make much difference. My 02 ViperER is as fast as my son's 02 Viper non-er .

im with zachalyse. the electric start really isnt needed, the viper is so easy to pull over. if its for trail riding keep it. if you are shedding weight for off trail use sell it and use the money for a lightweight can or trailing arms. im sure betweent the two you would lose 25lbs. to remove it you need to add two smoothing coils. p.m. betheviper, he might still have some.
Any guess on how much weight would be saved. I had an 02 standard Viper and I can say I really notice a weight difference between the 2. Even when just trail riding. I wonder how much of the additional weight is due to the E.S or reverse?
kuku, If I remove it, I most likely will keep it so I have the option to put it back in some day. If I should decide to sell, I'll let you know.

Keep both on there and diet for the winter! I think any amount of weight that doesn't equal a tank of gas is a waste because I can't even tell a difference from a full tank vs a empty tank of gas! If it 'feels' different I would look to suspension changes.
True, but a couple little things can add up to some good weight saved.
ie. adding a silencer and removing the E.S. alone could save as much as 28 lbs.
Then do some front end work and an update to the suspension = +/- 40lbs.
I'd say 30 lbs is pretty damn good and noticable and nearly 70 lbs. would be great!
You really can't just focus on 1 item as the only weight savings. It may be a good place to start. The E.S. is all but useless to me. I'm not that old yet.
