On the asphalt/grass we remove slide and add wheels has anyone tried this for the ice?Do you think it would work?

yes it would work but slide rails can get you better traction because more of the track is on the ground. With wheels, there isn't much pressure between the wheels. So most people that run on ice have a lube system for the slides, such as water. People used to run antifreeze, but obviously that wasn't so good for the lakes. A nice little drip system works like a champ.
