I thought I had seen something last year or so on here about replacing the stock light bulb for the head light. I did a couple of searches and I ended up with nothing useful.

I have a 96 VMax 600xt. I'd like to get a better bulb for it. Maybe something like a Sylvania Silver Star, however without having a bulb with me no-one will really help me out.

Does anyone know that the socket number or type is in my sled. I hope to get to use it next weekend, but I won't get to see it until then.

Thanks!

PIAA offers replacement bulbs for the H4 socket. They claim 135/125 watts with 60/55 watt input (standard). These bulbs appear to be one stop down from an HID but you should go to the PIAA website and have a gander. Order them through just about any good automotive store (pricy).

Atlas,

Is it the same headlight from your srx as my 96? They changed the sled design in 97 and I thought the headlight bulb changed.

Slappy,

Is it an H4 socket?

I messed up when i typed that. They are h4 bulbs. The headlights are diferant between the srx and xt.srx has dual bulbs. The srx uses the h4 bulb and the 9003st silverstars fit so if your sled uses a h4 bulb they would fit also.

Atlas,

Is the two bulb design, one for high beam and one for low? I'm pretty sure I only have the one bulb. The owner's manual isn't any help. It shows a bulb and says qty-1. No socket or bulb type. Just an illustration.

Rich Motorsports has the bulb you are looking for. Click on his advertisement or send him an e-mail Richie Rich will fix you up for sure. :D

If it has 3 tabs sticking out of the sides and 3 prongs that the wires connect to its a h4 bulb.
The srx has 2 bulbs. They have 2 low and 2 high beams.

Your socket is an H4 style and the bulb listed on the PIAA website is an H4 as well. I really recommend going to the PIAA website. It is well laid out and very informative. Many bulb manufacturers sell "blue light" and "white light" bulbs and I did fall for it, once. Turns out it was just paint on a regular bulb. The PIAA's are expensive but they do work.

impatient and out of time

Slappy,

I'm going to try the "Fakie" route. I looked to get the silverstars cause I have them in my truck. The places didn't have them in the h4 sockets. I had had the ge cool blue's in my truck for a while and they were ok, but replaced them with silver stars when they blew. I'm going up this weekend so I bought some xenon bulbs to try them out. I went with the "white" instead of the "blue". I'll give it a shot and keep the original in case I don't like it.

Thanks.

Doug
