Should I beef up the W-Arm?
I was reading through all the old post on this
and read that some say to just take out the bump stops
and some say to weld the heck out of it.

I'm doing the long travel via the Viper shocks if it makes a differance
Thanks in advance,
Bob

I would definately get the W arm beefed up. If you ride aggressively it will break eventually, just a matter of when and where

yea maxximum performance has a lightweight one with some gusseting in it but it isn't cheap, 225 bucks when you can do yours for MUCH cheaper and be stronger, just not as light. Depends how important weight is to you.

Couldn't agree more to weld that baby right up. Last season i broked every part but one. (one limiter strap bolt, all the metal but one little bar on all sides). Although, it did still seem to get me home without much problem i was definately pusing my luck riding that thing that night. Took it to school in metal shop to weld it up but ended up gettin an M-10 anyway before i could ride it lol.

if you get it welded and are worried about weight dont have yamaholic22 do it. i hear his gussets add 10lbs! LaLaLa :Moon: ;)!

lol, what you mean those are too heavy for ya? You would have to go pretty big to break that thing now ;)!

Cool info,
Now a new thought
What kind of metal is the arm made from & the best kind of weld for it (ex. tig, mig, stick, ect)?

it is just fairly mild steel, obviously not quite mild enough though, considering they break long before they bend, lol. Mig welding is fine for it, stick would be about the same. Tig is probably overkill, but if you can do it go ahead. The welds aren't what is going to break though, the material is thin and it will break the material before a good weld. Need some good gussets to get it to hold its shape with less twisting.

lol, i thought i would give you some crap. it looked really good after powdercoating. btw, you need to toss that can of spray paint. it was still sticky a week later! lol! ;)!

yea when i gave you that thing it had already been sitting for a few days i think, and it was still plenty sticky when i gave it to you. I have no idea how long the can was sitting there, lol. At least you got it powdercoated though. Have any pics of the sled and suspension?

I was going to so something similar to maxx perf
But should the bumpers stay or go

i have pics of the rails if you want to see chrome powdercoat. i didnt put the suspension back together yet, im waiting to see my job situation and perhaps mono shock conversion! if i do keep the pro action i might need your help figuring out where a couple things go. i took it apart in spring along with the pro x (which is now in one piece) and forgot how a couple things go! oops! :o|

post the chrome powdercoat! I want to see it! sounds nice. welding it is a great idea for most people, since you have it out especially

I'm curious to see it too.
Did you sand blast it first
And what kind of money does small part cost to powder coat

i had 2 complete skids powdercoated. chrome on the rails and gloss black on everything else. i was quoted $300 but he forgot the quote and only charged me $160 when i picked it up! he did all the blasting too. bad pics, but you get the idea. ill get better ones soon.

The rail looks sweet

Did you have clean all the bolt holes & pivots to get the parts to go back on,
or did he block them all up so the powder didn't stick

As far as the rubber stops, I'd leave them in if your beefing up the w-arm. I took mine out when I welded mine up. Last time I looked the rubber bumper in the shock was trashed. I hope the shock is still good(just had them long traveled). I think the arm can take the hammering of the rubber stops after it's welded up. JMO

the only thing i had him mask is where the hifax goes. i didnt need to clean any holes out on my pro x rails that were also done. this one is still in pieces. :o|
