Normally a 21 tooth gear would be better for acceleration but I think that its because you have such a big and long track. Thats prolly why the 22 is better than 21 in that situation.

21 will be better than the 22 out of the hole, but will have less top end holding everything else constant.

maybe your friend is thinking you will have less track spin with the higher gear giving you a little better traction

We went to the 21 in our stock Vipers. Lost a little on top, but gained a TON out of the hole. With a deeper lug longer track, I would think the 21 would make a HUGE difference for you. Seems to me it would take a lot more to get the big deep track turning. Am I all Snow?

Oh, i was confused about the 22 being bigger than the 21 hence Losing speed, but better out of the hole.. i guess not.. but i should get outa the hole just fine dont ya think? theres more to this than just stock motor.. hehe

This was a very easy mod to do, no need to change the chain. The hardest part is messing with the chain case oil (which should be changed at least once a year anyway). It's a great time to inspect chain etc. Just make sure to use some locktite on the sprocket nuts when you put it back together. Don't tell your riding friends that you did it. Just remember not to SMILE too much when you line them up for the impromto drag race... I was laughin my azz off after I beat my son out of the hole (both Vipers and he was pizzed off) for the third time...
