So what is the concensus on pipes for the Viper, as far as what is the best bang for the buck? Price vs. Performance vs. Sound. I don't want any obnoxiously loud pipes.
The brands that I am aware of are:
Hauck
Bender
SLP
Aaen
What else?

I'd like to hear from the guys who have run the above listed pipes and the likes and dislikes.

I got an '04 Viper S that I would be putting them on. Any problems with the DCS system?

Thanks!!

Hauck actually doesn't make any of his own pipes for the viper. The "hauck" pipes before this last year were simons cpr, and starting last year he is now using Aaens. Aaens are the lightest, cpr's make the most top end power, slps are very reliable and the quietest. They are all good in different respects, as long as you take the time to set them up right you shouldn't have problems with any of them. All of them will need a rear heat exchanger if you don't already have one, and should have an opticool gasket and head mod for the most reliability.

Thanks for the input guys. Yeah, my Viper S came with a rear heat exch. Didn't Hauck get pipes from Power Inc at some point too? With the new decible laws, I don't want real loud pipes. Have you ran or run with anyone with the pipes you mentioned? What about the DCS on the '04 Viper, I heard that there might be some issues with it?

Thanks!

SLP pipes have worked the best for me. I just did a setup last winter on the 05 Mtn Viper (with the DCS) and it worked flawlessly all winter long. They're the quietest pipes on the market as well.

Compared to the other pipes out, how is SLP for HP gains? Did you have any problems with heat melting anything?

I have speedwerx on my viper. If I had another choice it would be SLP. The speedwerx seem to work well. No problem with the DCS.

I've tested speedwerx, Haucks, and Benders, they all make about the same power. They all need heat exchangers, they should all get Benders head gasket when using a one piece head, and they could all be a little quieter, the Benders seem to have a deeper tone. I myself opt for the Benders because they make the same power as the others at less RPM's. Less wear on the engine, more torque. This is on a stock engine. If you're gonna port it, an raise the exhaust port then some of the other pipes would be more beneficial.

Thanks for the replies! What are you guys seeing for prices on SLP's or Benders? Is it worth paying the extra $ for the ceramic coating?

I got my Bender's used for 400.00 U.S. with heel clickers and springs. Saved about 600.00 bucks with shipping and all. only needed to spend another 300.00 for the gasket and rear heat exchanger. Well I added the Boyesen Rad valves too, for a little extra. I have'nt had any problems with over 1000 hard miles. Look around, you'll probably find a set for a good price.

I have coated SLP's on mine. I really like em, good power, quiet for pipes. I think the coating helps keep the under hood temps down, no melting problems.

i had benders i burned mine down 3 times, i did everything bender told me had egts, constantly checking piston wash but didnt work for me, i bought simon cprs and flawless the whole season. they also put out a lot of power. the benders on the other hand have been real good for some but maybe its the gas around here. i dont know.

put bender's on a bunch of sleds. not one problem. MUST install rear heat exchanger & head gasket. MUST bleed cooling system properly. viper cooling system is designed for 120 hp.. pipes add 30 hp.. that's 25% more power. more power means more heat. so realistictly you need 25% more cooling capacity. stock cooling system will not cut it.
it's not enough to just add more cooling capacity - the system needs to be bled properly. this takes time & patience.

$400 is a great buy! I've heard a lot of mixed reviews on the various pipes. Seems CPR, SLP & Benders are the top 3 choices. If you run across another set of triple pipes, let me know.

Thanks!

Yeah, I've heard from a few people that they've had issues with the excess under hood heat. Does anyone recommend putting heat tape on the hood or wires?

It's weird how someone can have so much trouble with a certain brand of pipe and others think they are great. Guess it just show ya how different each sled is.

Some great advice, thanks! My '04 Viper S came factory with a rear heat exchanger, so is it safe to assume it should be fine? That would eliminate the need to bleed the cooling system too. Probably still have to do the head gasket though.

Slp does recommend using heat tape in some area's. Not sure if it's required with coated pipes or not. I used heat tape since the pipes do come with reqired amount of heat tape. The instructions are clear (with pic's) and easy to follow about where to put it.

Do you run EGT gauges or do you just check plug color and wash?

ViperS, I just check the plugs and wash. Slp's jet spec's are about right on the money.
Also if you pipe it, and the fuel pump vent has been silconed shut. (for the pump freezing issue) I would recommend removing the silcone to let the pump breathe through the vent. IMO, closing off the hole can reduce the maximum fuel flow out put of the pump. Something you do not want to happen with pipes and large main jet's. Instead just shim the pump up off of the tunnel.
