Broken studs on carbides

Make sure they are tight all the way and you can always cut a bolt off and weld it on to save them - I've had to do that before - not on a viper though!

i broke off the front one,and just left it.No problems at all.I think it was from overtighting, and the ski flexes and they break.

Mine kept breaking too,but i tend to tighten things till they squeak. The last set i put on i used lock washers and didnt tighten them so hard,so far no problems.I did notice the woodys carbides uses a thicker stud then the roteins? i had on before.

I broke the front one on both ski's last year. Maybee it is a tightening problem. Sounds like the lock washer and not thightening so much could be the trick. I'll try that this year.

Yes they are very high carbon steel and are brittle, overtightening puts too much tensile load on them and the vibration will eventually break them. That is why they have nylon washers in the nuts, so you don't have to crank them very tight
