2000 700 SRX, the temp light, not oil light, does not blink a code at start up and stays lit all the time. The sled still runs fine. Any ideas other then buying a new CDI box. Thanks

oil light sending unit might be bad.

Temp Light
I replied to your question on the dreaded Amsnow but thought I'd post here as well. Same problem on a friend's 2000 and it was the wiring harness under the engine shorted out on the bulkhead. He was able to snake the harness out and fix it but if you can't get it that way you'll have to pull the motor out (or at least tip it forward). I'd try really hard to get the harness to pull out before messing with the motor. In either case, the harness will be rubbed through where it goes under a coolant hose directly under the carbs, to the right of the steering arm. The hose forces the harness into the bulkhead and eventually rubs through the insulation on the wires. I'd be willing to bet that's your problem. If you don't want to mess with it right now I'd feel pretty safe riding it and fixing it in the summer as I've never heard of an SRX overheating. Either way, don't buy a new CDI before you check this out because you'll be wasting your money.

I have a question for you experts out there. I have a 2001 SRX 700 and it has less then 500 miles on it and it has a problem with the temp light staying on.
I just bought it but it had the problem last season as well, I was told it was the Temp Sensor so I replaced the sensor and it still has the same problem.
I have been reading about the wiring harness problem on some of the SRX's, could this be the problem even thought the sled has so few miles on it?
Anyone have any insight into this problem, I could use the help.
Thank you

this may sound a little dumb, but is the temp light supposed to blink on start up? and if it dosent is this a sign of some sort of problem?
thanks
thanks

Had a similar problem with my '00 SX500R. Temp light would get brighter with more rpm's. Found the wires going under the engine rubbing on the jackshaft. '02 SX600R flashes the temp light three times on start up, but the 500 does not.
Shorted under the motor as the harness rubbed thru. I have one 00'SRX that has done it but the other has not, I am sure it will. That is one thing that I wish Yamaha had spent just a little more time on and put that wiring harness in some wire loom. Would of saved some headaches! And I would not put off fixing it as there are other wires in that harness that can rub thru and cause problems. Good Luck!

same thing happend to my brothers 98 srx600 harness rubbed through

yea i wouldn't let the problem wait until summer, you never know what else it could short out or blow out, not to mention a fire hazard from arcing.

Thanks for the input on the problems but just to let you know when I get on the throttle the light goes out, it sounds like it could be the harness, but I'm not sure since it has so few miles on it that it shouldn't have worn through already. I will check that when I get back to the garage!

My 99 srx did the same thing. Wiring harness was rubbed thru - Now my tach and fuel gauge quit working & the oil light blinks 7 times. The sled still runs fine. Could this also be a worn wire someplace or is this a bigger problem? Please help
