Hello !
Last year I buy a Yamaha Exciter II SX to my wife in mint condition.
with a 1" track
Just 5000 Km on it and only one owner since new.
I managed to get hold on a used BENDER single pipe for it, and it really rocks....
I also find a set of new Ohlins front shox for it.
totally I haved payed around 1500 US $ for everything.
But since I'm not a Yammi guy, I know nothing about the Exciter II SX....
I would like to know what to do and what not to do whit it.....
Carb set up ?
Clutch set up ?
Any modifications ?

That was a pretty quick sled back then, If memory serves me correct it had something in the range of 150 lbs compression right from Yamaha making it a little gas fussy.
Had a 92 EX II back in the day with an RPC pipe on it, it ran pretty stong for a little 570.
As far as setups
, can't help you there.

I didn't know Ohlins made pogos...
I would have baught a pair for my old SX. As far as set ups....All I did was throw a clutch kit in it. jet it and I had a PSI pipe on it. 192 studs. I tore evry one up in the trails with that sled. On a straitaway, I'd get beat, but that is one limber sled. Here's a pic of my old one.....

I'd say they were one of the best handling sleds ever. I had a 1993 Exciter II and hands down that sled handled far better than my Vmax600, I miss that sled.

What is a "POGO" are you refering to the T.S.S. Telescopic Ski Suspension ?

I bought a brand new Exciter II SX in '92/'93 and loved it. I put on about 5200+ miles on it and never touched a single thing on it! It was a fun sled and back then, one of the faster "580 class" sleds. I held onto it for a long time, but then sold it when I bought my SX-R. I doubt a pipe would make much difference on it. I think a clutch kit would be the best bang for the buck.
my $.02 worth.

I think you mean telescopic strut suspension.
Lasse, a "pogo stick" is a "hoppestokk". Hope this helps..

great sled. had one for my wife. on dyno tech dyno made 93 hp stock. bender single pipe was good for +10 hp. very quick & lite sled. if you put on the bender pipe you need to go down on the pilots one or two sizes. too rich & will foul plugs. will have to check my notes but i think we did modify the air box inlet. will let you know.

Exciters rock!!
I had a 1987 Exciter (First Year). Upgraded it with Fox Shocks in the rear skid, & did some clutching (lots of HP available here). I loved the sled and even though it only had about 5 inches of travel in the rear, it rode very well. Had to rebuild the motor at 11,000 Km. Once had a guy on the trails get off of his Pooolaris XC800 and say "I can't believe your still on my tail???".
The Exciter weas excellent on fuel and injector oil. Bullet proof motor. Just make sure you coolant lines aren't rubbing on the recoil or other moter parts. There was a tendancy for them to wear through which you don't want.
Sold mine three weeks ago after buying 2001 SXR600 late in the season last year. Now I'm trying to get the SXR to ride as well as the old Exciter!!! The SXR has more travel but the shock valving negates much of it.
I in mourning still!! :>(
You made a good choice.
