I have a 91 exciter and burnt up the cylinders. They were too expensive to recoat with nikasil so I found a pair of older cylinders that had the stock sleeve and had them bored .040. I was told they would work fine.
Has anyone tried this?

exciter
Yes they will work but expect the sled to run as strong as it did with the 91 cylinders

One word of caution, USE STOCK PISTONS !!! And bleed the oil; injection system correctly, you will be fine from there.
Pistons
If you are .040 over you cannot use stock pistons as they are available only at .020 over. Your only choice will be Wisecos and you will need them for the 88 cylinders which are an iron bore with rings specifically for iron not nikasil. Be sure to use proper clearance recommended by Wiseco and always let warm up till the heat exchangers are warm before going or you risk cold seisure.
