Did a compression test today and this is what I got.
Left to right.
Engine cold-116,118,114.
Engine hot--110,112,108. So what do you think?
Re-ring or leave it?
Buy a new guage?
I used a fairly cheap guage.
thanks,

If at all possible get a good quality gauge and test it again.I would say that your readings should be in the 125 and up range,at least that's what mine are(98 SRX 700).If you still are getting the same readings then I would say that rings are in order. Are you noticing anything like unusual sparkplug fouling or hard starting?

I have noticed it is a lot harder to start this year than last year.
Now it takes like 6-7 pulls when last year I could start first pull 95% of the time.
How hard is to to put in new rings?
I have wrenched an every part of my sled except the motor.
(I've done drivers, clutches, new track, chaincase, brakes, bearings, etc)
Is it fairly simple and straight forward to do the rings?
Will I see any power gains?
thanks,
mul

if the rings are gone then you will see a gain because of the blowby you would be getting. its not that hard just make sure you have all the tools before you start.

Did another compression test today with a little oil in the cylinders.
Yesterday cold---------- 116,118,114.
Today cold with a little oil-119,124,121.
I am going to get another guage this week.
Any thoughts?

not much of a difference, but for the price of a set of rings i would redo them just for the confidence in the sled when riding, you dont want to be in the middle of nowhere and have the engine give out.

Do I need any special tools to do the rings?
Other than a torque wrench for the heads.
Will I notice any difference in the sled after?
Any links to doing a ring job?
thanks,
mul

you don't need any special tools other than a torque wrench and a 12mm socket. Sled will probably feel a little snappier after putting in the new rings. Use regular old yamalube or citgo two stroke oil or something for break in, synthetic oils are too good and won't break the rings in properly.
