I have a 02 Viper with just over 10,000 miles. Other than the reeds being replaced at 8500 miles I have never touched the motor. I am planning on rebuilding the motor and replacing the Pistons, Rings, Wrist Pins, Wrist pin bearings and the Cir Clips.
Wondering about the water pump. Should I change it? How hard is it to replace? Any tricks to know about?
I also heard with the Nikasil cylinders I don't need to hone it out for the new rings to properly seat. Is this correct?
Any other part of the motor to be concerned about?
Thanks,
-J

Personally i wouldn't mess with the waterpump unless you start having troubles with it. May cause trouble instead of preventative maintenance. Its a spotty issue, and if you have went that long i think you are pretty safe with the stock seal. USUALLY the seals fail around 3 or 4 thousand miles if they are going to, not always, but usually. Also that is correct you really shouldn't hone nicasil. Many people do it anyway, but is usually not necessary and only shortens the life of the nicasil. It is very hard and holds up well. Check the bores with the specs and see where they are at.
