What kind of MPH gains have you seen when gearing for top end speed runs compared to staock gears
What kind of TIME gains have you seen when gearing for 500 ft grass drags compared to stock gears

gearing up probably won't gain you anything on top end unless you have done things to the engine to get more power out of it. It simply just won't shift out all the way with gearing up because it won't have enough power to pull it and it will start backshifting before its shifted out. Gearing down makes a big difference in short sprints though.

sled is ported, cut head, and overbored carbs. Should make about 155 hp. May have enough power to change gearing for speed runs

My vote would be for stock gearing then.. Haven't heard anyone going taller without a large increase in HP...Obviously depends on your weight though.. Turk generally says 160-170 and under...gear down one... 170LB+ stay stock...

Snow shouldn't that be the other way around?

yes that should be the other way around. And for better top end you could probably go up one on the top, but you will also lose bottom end. Definately need to make sure that if you do gear up that the clutches are shifting all the way out under load. You can do this with the magic marker test.

So there's no use in gearing down one tooth if I'm only 160 pounds??

yes, it will still help your bottom end, that is more just a general all around rule for good performance. You will most likely lose a little top end in most conditions though if you drop a tooth.

I went up 2 on top to 25/38 with .010 shaved on the heads and LL100 AVGAS mixed w/ 93 octane 1/2and1/2. Excluding sleds w/nitrous and turbo it's really got some legs to stay w/ bigger bore sleds.I am running 8 tooth drivers w/this gearing and 8and900's not a problem but 1000's are tough

If I drop from a 23t to 22t sprocket on top do you need a different chain or can you use the stock one?
