this is friends sled.here is the list of parts
1"kimpex track
1.080"5/16 studs
maxx perf hyfax wheelsaver kit with urathane wheels
the problem
excessive hyfax wear in between the idler wheels,he replaced his first set that were brand new,on his second set and has 500 miles on the sled for the season so far?
my accessment on the problem
tall lugged track along with the studs, along with riding on hard packed trails is wearing them out
maybe a limiter strap issue as well
any imput on this problem is appreciated!

all srxs wear hyfax fast. most people see the hyfax wear to the limit line or close to it and panic. you can pull the limiters tighter to help but it will still go to the line. drill a hole in the hyfax (off the sled), through the hyfax where it wears in the most. this will let you keep an eye on things by just rolling it up on it's side and looking through the track windows. hyfax wear is the nature of the beast with the srx. if he is running the stock transfer rods he can do yamahas service bulletin on his sled. loosen track (i loosen mine till it ratchets then tighten it in small increments till it stops ratcheting. yamaha's spec is way too tight) pull up limiters, and run the thin 2.5 mm spacer on the bottom of the tranfer rods. this helped my short track srx go about 4000 (yes 4000) miles on one set of hyfax. tell your bud to keep an eye on the wear but dont panic. once the idlers take up the pressure from the hyfax they stop wearing in. good luck! ski

I am new to transfer rods, how do I know how they are set. I have a stock sxr700 2001. Put new hyfax on and they wore to the line in 40 miles, looked like no change the next 180 miles. Mine seem to wear the worse near where the transfer rod is mounted towards the rear?

With my stock suspesion they lasted much longer than most, but I'm real fat, so the suspension was a bit more compressed. lower angle of attack for the skid
another trick that may help is to drill a bunch of holes in the slide so they hold snow
