RE: What Max Track lug height on MMax with 9 tooth drivers

Hey guys, I was wondering what is the largest track lug height (total height) you can run 9 tooth drivers on a 2002 MMax, I know a 1.5" will work but what about 1.75" anyone try this??

A 9T driver is about 13/16" larger in diameter. So half of that is a hair larger than 3/8".

I think you could get away with that extra 1/8" with a 1.75" track.

Thanks, I have my track at 2" now and 8 tooth drivers, was thinking on going back to 9 teeth for better transfer and gearing down, but I didn't want to cut off too much lug, and IM not buying a Dropped and rolled chaincase!!lol

Putting 9 tooth drivers back on will gear you up, not down. Can't help with the track clearance though, I have the drop & roll tunnel on mine.

IM sorry, i worded that wrong then, Im going to put 9 tooth drivers on and then gear down my chaincase to compensate. sorry for the misunderstanding. Anyhow, I heard the aftermarket tunnels are not as strong and i drive my sled rough at times. Is there a way to drop and roll the chaincase with the stock tunnel???

You can cut and weld a DnR on the stock tunnel, but it ain't worth the gain on your model year. Pre 2000 approach angle was horrible like 35deg or somethin like that. 00 and up gets you 17deg. Makes more sense to do the tunnel for near the same cost.

I'm doing my tunnel this summer, thinkin 4" down and 1" back, hopin for 12deg or somethin.

Haven't researched the best tunnel for strength and durability, but I'm not worried, seen many an aftermarket tunnel out here in the Rockies with no probs.

Track lug

A 1 3/4 track will fit with 9 tooth drivers. Not hardly any clearance but will work. Dropping drive axle 4'' is probably not a good idea. Having that much drive axle hanging down below the bulk head is asking for trouble.

check with your dealer but im pretty sure my 00 and 01 both have 2" paddles, stock w/ 9t drivers. if not, call Hartman Inc for a relocation kit per your application. compare price of drivers plus shop time vs Tom's kit and your own labor, put one of these kits on 97 sx w/ 2"x141 and it works GREAT!!!!!
