Front limiter strap: Slack or no?

Hey folks

Just checking: Should the front limiter strap on my 96 VMax XT normally be slack or tight?

Mine currently has a whole bunch of slack, no matter if it's sitting on the ground or the track is raised. Somehow that doesn't seem right to me.

While I'm on the subject, if anyone could give me a proper spec as to the upper slider joint gap on the control rods, I'd appreciate it. Mine's currently at around 1/2 inch.

I'm asking because I had to put new relay rods on this year due to a pretty fast stump-strike last year. Everything looks OK and straight, nothing looks bent or broken. (except the relay rods, which I replaced) But, I fishtail all over the place when I get on the gas above 40mph or so. It didn't do this at all before I met the damn stump.

The track tension and alignment look good, the rear shock preloads are both within spec at the "standard" factory setting. The fronts are set at factory standard as well.

Trying to get to the bottom of the problem and fix it myself. No way I'm taking it to a shop, it'd be July before I get it back.

Also FYI, it's got 144 studs and 6" carbides.

Thanks for the help.
