I am looking for the oil pump adjustment (free play), for a 93 Exciter II LE. I can't get the adjustment down below 20mm. I am around 45mm to 50mm. Brad

Ok, but is that what the service manual says to do. I don't want to burn this thing up.

All the Exciters I set up that had round slides on them had the oil cable adjusted at WOT and usually had a dot to line up on the cable, the Phazer was done at idle and maybe the SX Exciter don't remember that one). But if your adjustment is that far off it would have to be done at WOT to take up the extra lenght you have.

I just got off the phone with my local dealer who is also a friend, and he read to me (out of the service manual) to keep the throttle closed. I just did a check again and tested it to a second pump I have. I need to change pumps. Somthing is wrong with this pump. Brad

OK so ya made me wonder because I usually don't forget things like this, and I quote the 93 Exciter manual page 2-5...........
adjustment steps
Loosen locknut
For EX570 E/ST (your sled) Hold the throttle lever at full throttle position, turn the adjuster in or out until the adjustment mark is aligned with the end of the adjuster. (the adjustment mark being a dot on the cable casing)
This is for the models with roundslide carbs.
It goes on to say to talk about a free play adjustment, but that is not for your sled but for an SX which has flat slides and has a whole different set up. That adjustment is 23-25mm.
The ONLY exciter to be set-up in the idle position is the 87' with original butterfly carbs, they are set like a Phazer. Free play adjustment of .984

There shouldnt be any of those butterfly carbs, Yamaha gave all new roundslide carbs out as a recall to everyone...
Good luck on your sled

This an older question I had after I rebuilt the Engine. Its actually a 92 Exciter II. Yes it has the round slide carbs. I have another Exciter engine that is going in my 84 V-max. I even have the Aaen pipes for it. Can't wait to get that project started. Brad
