I've got an 04 Viper ER that I'm trying to get the best possible improvement in performance #$%&* WITHOUT ENGINE MODS #$%&* . I plan on keeping the engine bullet proof. (no pipes, porting, etc.)

I've started with weight and ride: Adding an Expert X, Boss highrise seat and MBRP trail can (for weight savings) and ohlins in the front.

what next?

Clutching? any proven kits for the ER?

Lightweight front end components? are they really worth the money?

Anything else?

I really don't need the electric start. would it worth removing for the weight savings?

Top end is not my priority. I jst want this thing to rip from 0-80 ;)!

A good clutching set up would be good, but what track is on the 04's.If it is the rip saw go with clutching first then some transfer rods. and then if your not happy, lightweight parts.

the electric would save a bit of weight and that helps with acceleration. if no ripsaw yet, get one. I hear good things about the green spring and 43/53 helix setup. if you actually do take the electric out, pm me a price, I MAY take it from ya :)

Try Hauck Powersports they have a bunch of clutch kits you can buy, I have one and from 30 to 90. It is a bullet!!! For a 700 anyway.

bucky, we going to ride together this year or WHAT?? lol! what was included in the kit, any idea?

I'm thinking with the Expert X, a ripsaw would be overkill since the Expert has crazy weight transfer and I will be studding. If I remove the E.S. I will be keeping it in case I ever want to put it back to stock.

I'll be taking a look at Haucks kits.

Thanks for the replys

get an ice ripper then. studs do nothing on the trail unless you hit ice. and all the weight transfer in the world wont matter with a bad track. it will be better, but better still with a nice track :)

I really don't consider the stock camo track to be bad. Following the yokohama, these tracks were considered the best thing going until the ripsaw came along. I believe the ripsaw really helps compensate for the proactions poor transfer. That is why it is believed to be so good. My bet it that the expert with the stock track will be every bit as good if not better than the proaction with a ripsaw. I know the ripsaw is a better track, but in this situation, I really don't believe it to be the best place to spend my money.

In Miane conditions, studs are a must. Far too many icey corners.

Eric,

I will try and swing by your camp this year. Eventually we will meet! ;)! I disagree with you when yousaid studs are only usefull on trails when breaking. Ever hook up early morning on a hard crisp trail. If you have a regular track with no studs, it is definately not in the same class as far a luanchabiliy!! :yam: I have the #2 kit. Look on www.hauckpowersportsinc.com and under clutching. It defiantely helps me from 30 to 90 mph like i said earlier.

Bucky, Is your Viper an ER? Would the kit make much of a difference from a base viper?

The Hauck site doesn't actually say the #2 kit is specific for the Viper. Is it? The #3 for $25 more looks like it is better.

Yes, It does. Mine is an 02. You might want to call Hauck if your really interested. They have a newer website when i bought a few years ago. Mine is the eqivalent to the #2 kit you see. They are available just about all Yammies.

Zach,

Go back to the Hauck website and checkout the Viper Performance section. That will give you some great ideas on how to supe up that Viper. Sounds like your spending a sh*t load of $$ on that Viper. Would love to check it out! :WayCool: I will have to ttake it for a spin and blow the carbon out for you. LOL

I was just looking at your avatar. Is that a front end kit you have or did you just polish all components? How do you like it? Or, is it just a deceiving photo.

I have to agree with Bucky, studs on hard back snow do help stop and accelerate. I added the 53/43 dalton and a green spring at 60 wrap plus 144 center woody mega bites to my 03 viper. Can't wait to ride. Keep us posted on your mods.

where I ride the studs are useless. had them on the last sled, and this sled feels the same. just my conditions though, always snow, never see ice. well, maybe 1-2 times a year on hills. when I head out in the morning (5:00) the trails are hard and I am fine without the studs. not saying they are bad, just that in my case not needed. and compared to dads ripsaw the cone camo SUCKS! I always hated it though, no traction in anything other than ideal conditions
