About how much top end do you think ill lose by dropping a tooth up top adding a 1.25 track and clutch to vmaxjohns setup. all this from a stock clutch setup with a 1" track. aslo its a vx500xtc

Hoffam, I replaced the .75 with a 1.25 ripsaw and lost about 10 mph topend. Sled's a 99 sx 600. I also changed the clutch to accommodate the belt slippage (over rev) with the added resistance. Turk's recommended clutching - 53/47 helix, silver secondary spring, 8 ca weights with .8 grams in tip. The rpm's are around 8100 - 8300, so we'll remove the rivot in the tip. Maybe that will hope to raise the rpms to 8500. First time ever messing with the clutching, so I really don't know what I'm doing. I love the corner to corner acceleration, explosive, but miss the topend more. One last season with this sled then an Attak, and hopefully Yamaha introduces the Attak with GT package for 2007.

Dropping a tooth from the top will give you a little more lower end punch and very little if any discernable top end loss, ...however adding a heavier lug track will give you more resistance and lower your top end a little.

Dropping a tooth from the top will not give ma a little more lower end? or it will?

dropping a tooth on the top gear will give you more bottom end but it will also take away somet top end when the clutches fully shift out. However, it will pull to top speed much quicker. How much top end you lose depends on exact setup, conditions, rider weight, track, etc etc.....I would say USUALLY about a 3-4 mph loss.

3-4 with just the gear? then add another 5-10 for the new track, so 8-14 miles slower, but its only a 500 anyway so im not too worried about going fast, just getting there fast, so it will smoke through the corners?

I think your numbers are a little over zelous, ...dropping a tooth and adding a 1.25 track will give you noticable performance inprovement either way you look at it, ...provide you setup your clutches right your top end drop will not be that apparent.

yea OZ is right, those numbers are way inflated. For one, I don't think you will ever find a 10 mph top end loss switching to that track. Second, the shorter gearing will allow you to pull that new track better, so the top end loss will actually be less evident, while the bottom end will be greatly improved.
