700 Big Time Break Up

Picked a 2001 SXR 700-it starts and idles fine but when I go to accelerate things break up big time-burbles and stumbles badly.Tried new set of plugs and things were fine. Tried it again and problem is back. Also-when problem is present, the tach and gas gauge do not work. Any ideas?
