I'm going on the one big trip of the year in 2 weeks and figured I'd check over my sleds. Last year my 2002 viper developed a leak at the water pump, I had it fixed under warranty, and have ridden it about 400 miles since. No visual leaking, nothing at the bottom of the belly pan, and the level in the coolant tank has remained constant.

But just to be safe I took a clean paper towel and reached up and around the pump. I ended up with a tiny bit of anti-freeze on the paper towel. It's almost like the gasket is acting as a wick.

I then check my 2003 Viper that I just got as a leftover (200 miles so far) and exact same thing. No drips, no loss of coolant, but I found coolant under the pump housing, again I'm guessing the gasket is damp.

I checked the bolts that I could reach easily and all were tight.

Is this a problem or am I just being paranoid?

Thanks,

Doug Stewart

Yes, I've checked it a few times. And eveytime I do there ends up being a little spot of anti-freeze on the paper towel. Maybe 1/2 the size of a dime.

I'm not sure this is a problem or not.

Thanks...

it should not leak at all.....I would be very cautious riding the sled with the leak no matter the size. I would have it looked at and get it fixed asap.

Doug it is now Nov 23 2004 and my viper has been setting in my heated basement all summer and just seen coolant on the floor under the belly pan
have not started the sled all summer. How did you come out with your leak?
Thanks ShoeMan

2002 Viper Coolant Leak

I have a 2002 Viper ER with 2300 miles and it has been in my heated basement all summer and just noticed a coolant on the floor under the belly pan. Could the bad casket on the water pump? Have not checked anything out yet. But would like some helpful hits before I get started.

Thanks In Advance

Water Pump

Since reading this post I looked back and found that it's been a problem... I just picked up a leftover new 03 Viper ER... should I anticipate water pump problems or did they fix the issue by 03?

I lucked out and there was a factory team at a dealership here in NH and when I brought mine in for the leak they fixed it nicely!!

I had my 03 Mtn Viper fixed last season and now I see more antifreeze. It doesn't appear to be a gasket more likely an "o" ring I don't exactly know what to do.

I had mine fixed at Rochester Motorsports, but I have since pated ways with them. I have heard good things about A1 though. Good luck to you. :yam:
