We put a rear heat exchanger in my brother's Viper last year because it was overheating. He ran a 1" track with 1.175" Woody's and started loosing coolant slowly late in the season. So we just threw it up on the rack to change tracks and found out he'd dug a couple small holes in the heat exchanger, so now we gotta replace it. I thought I remembered that the Viper heat exchanger was the same as the SRX, is that right? Also, do they make hear exchanger protectors to stop this from happening again or are 1.175 studs just too much? If somebody has one for sale, please let me know, thanks! ;)!

yes they make rear protectors for the viper/srx style rear heat exchangers, and port yamaha is having a sale on them right now.

I just installed the rear exchanger and protectors. See my pictures in the working log section under my thread.

I think the SRX exhanger is larger then the viper s heat exchanger. I installed the SRX one and it seemed to be as large as you could go. My informal 15min idle test (in 60 degree weather) still didn't yield a coolant light like it did in 5-9 mins before teh exhanger. I'm confident it helped by quite a large margin.

The KIT from Yamaha fits the srx sxr and viper!!!!! Port washington Yamaha has them for 89.95...... I had 20 but they sold like hotcakes!!!! YAMAHA"S Program is over so, expect to pay 161,00 PLUS!!!! gary Oles nosboy

I probably have 5 of the exchangers sitting on the shelf yet. Some new some used some with protectors included. PM me if anyone is interested.

I ordered a heat exchanger from my dealer today for $53 bucks and change. i used the part number someone posted in an earlier post. His cost was $45.00
