Going through the skid on my 97 700SX. Pulled the shocks, lood good, no oil leaking, shafts aren't pitted or bent at all. If I put all my weight (150lbs) on them, they will slowly compress and the extend back out again at about the same rate. If I remember from when I re-built my front shocks, they were pretty easy to compress when I took them off. However, when I got them back they were almost impossible for me to compress myself.
It was easy to know when to do the fronts because the radius rods had the wrong angle to them. Does anyone know how much weight pushed down on the shock it should take to compress the rear shocks?

It will take very nearly the same amount of weight to compress the spring regardless of the condition of the shock. The thing that will change is the speed it will compress. Because it compresses slowly it is probably okay. If the spring is removable, you could remove it with a spring compressor and check the action of the shock against a new one.

This is with the springs removed. I am definately not that strong!
I took them in today to be re-charged any way. For $10, I figured I might as well. I needed a couple of bushings too, and they were out of stock, so I will pick up the shocks and bushings next week.
