when i first start my srx 700 it makes some knocking /pinging sounds.this goes away after the sled is warm.i am thinking piston to cylinder specs are out.sled has 8000 k on it. comp. is 125 on all three cyl. what is the average cost of this rebuild ? what will i need? how much will it cost to have my yamaha dealer pull the jugs and check?just bought a house and money is tight!! anybody have some pistons?will rings themselves be a fix? thanks for any replies.also , this knock/ping is not constant,it is intermitant during warm up.

I have a set of stock 2001 srx 700 pistons with 400 miles on them. I pulled them out and put in wiesco pistons in it because we run nitrous on it for grass drags. I would take 100.00 for the set but I dont think pistons and rings will fix your problem. Could be rod bearings going out and when the sled warms up, metal expands and the knock gets less noisey. Do have a stock motor out of 99 srx 700 with 3000 miles on it. Might let it go for 800.00 or o.b.o.

Let me know
Thanks Craig

You'd get rid of those pistons and rings for 100 bucks? And they really only have 400 miles on them? No scuffs on them or anything?

traditionally rod knocks get louder as it warms up while piston slap gets quieter. could even be something as simple as an exh gasket.

we need more info man, does it vibrate bad when it's cold? you can do top-end yourself, it's not particularily difficult, or you can find a local TY member to give you a hand.

The sync could be causing the idle up and down, but i dont see how it would be causing the ping or knock you describe.

I think it's a rod bearing to, seen one a a 98 before the dealer shafted him on it, turned the idle up on it to cover the knocking it at idle it sounded like a hammer in there, and would smoothen out with a little rpm and them after that point you wouldn't hear anything once you where riding, also was having trouble with fouling plugs which was a result of the bottom end coming apart.
